Best motion sensor for your smart home
Automating is fun! Home automation requires something to trigger a so-called trigger. Then a motion sensor is a perfect way to automate your home. Often it is precisely movement in a specific area that you want to use to, for example, turn on the lighting. But as usual, the possibilities are endless and only the imagination sets the limits.
What is a motion sensor?

Aqara Presence Sensor FP2
The Aqarq Presence Sensor FP2 belongs to a new generation of sensors that makes use of a mmWave technology. This allows for a significantly more advanced and accurate detection of movements. The sensor can sense movements as small as a person's breathing. It can also sense up to five people in the room and divide the room into up to 30 different zones. These zones, in turn, can be used to automate your home. For example, you can divide your kitchen into two zones, one at the dining table and one at the sink. When someone moves to the sink, the work light comes on.
The Aqarq Presence Sensor FP2 also has a light sensor (LUX) that can be used for automation. Using the sensor in the bedroom also adds some clever features as the sensor can sense if someone is lying in bed. Another smart feature is fall detection. If someone suddenly falls in the home, the sensor can trigger an automation, for example, to send a push notification to your phone.
In summary, the Aqarq Presence Sensor FP2 is a player in the market using a technology that we will see more of in the future. If you are willing to pay a slightly higher price, this may be for you. Keep in mind that the Aqarq Presence Sensor FP2 requires constant current.

Aeotec MultiSensor 7
This is a sensor that can do most things. Motion sensor, UV sensor, humidity sensor, vibration sensor, light sensor and temperature sensor. A versatile sensor that fits perfectly into the smart home.
Unlike its predecessor MultiSensor 6, the Multisensor 7 has 70% faster wire-read communication and 64% better battery life.
In order to avoid changing batteries, there is the possibility of connecting a USB cable. This also allows the use of MultiSensor 7 as a repeater.

Aqara Motion Sensor P2
Aqara, as usual, delivers high quality products. This update to their motion sensor comes with native support for Matter and has a battery life of up to 2 years.
The design makes it easy to mount the sensor in several ways. Either upside down on the ceiling or against a wall. You can also take the drill foot and set the sensor directly on the table or shelf.
The sensor has a detectable area with a wide angle of 150-170 degrees and a length of about 7 m.
Thanks to the motion sensor's stand-alone light sensor with support for Matter, you can create light-based automations independently of the motion sensor.

Eve Motion Sensor
Eve Motion Sensor is an advanced motion sensor for smart homes that is compatible with The Matter Standard, allowing it to be integrated into various smart ecosystems. When it detects movement, it can activate scenarios, such as turning on lights or starting other connected devices, both indoors and outdoors, thanks to its IPX3 certification for weather protection.
Matter means that it can be connected to several different smart home systems, not just Apple HomeKit. This makes it more flexible and user-friendly for those who have various smart products in their home.
Battery life can vary greatly depending on frequency of use and temperature conditions. Although battery life is normally long, it may need to be changed more often in cold outdoor environments.
Unfortunately, the sensor does not have a temperature sensor, which would have been both reasonable and desirable when operating for outdoor use.

Fibaro Motion Sensor

Frient Motion Sensor Pro
The Danish company Frient continues to launch stylish and well-packaged products. Frient Motion sensor Pro has a temperature sensor, light sensor and motion sensor built in. One notices that they are betting on broad support as the motion sensor is compatible with Homey, SmartThings, Smart Home and Google. They also have a regular motion sensor that does not have a temperature sensor and tamper alarm but only for about 10kr less. All in all, the Frient Motion Sensor Pro is an excellent motion sensor with many useful features.

NEO Coolcam Motion Sensor
A fairly affordable motion sensor for your smart home. With a design similar to the Fibaro Motion Sensor, it is easy to place and hide in your home. Light sensor (Lux) and temperature sensor are included just like the Philips Hue Motion Sensor. What sets these apart is that the NEO Coolcam runs on Z-Wave instead of ZigBee and that the Neo has a slightly larger detection area.

Philips Hue Motion Sensor
Philips Hue's own motion sensor. A stylish sensor with most of the features you need. To get the full potential of this motion sensor, you should also use their own hub, the Philips Hue Bridge. Like all other ZigBee connected products, it is extra energy efficient and therefore has a decent battery life.
Philips Hue also has a motion sensor for outdoor use.

Aeotec SmartThings Motion Sensor
A simple motion sensor with built-in temperature sensor for indoor use. For those who ask for nothing more than the simplest features and use Smartthings, this is a good choice. Unfortunately, the price lowers the overall rating.
